Haven Crt, Torquay called for a furniture selection that could hold its own within a striking architectural shell of polished terrazzo underfoot, concrete pillars, polished plaster ceilings and a curved kitchen island and walls throughout, while bringing a warmth and comfort for the young family and their guests that had previously been missing. With sweeping views of native gum trees on all sides, every selection was considered against the landscape outside as much as the materials within.

In the living room, the chrome and leather Rudolph Chair sits alongside a travertine coffee table and a pair of green marble side tables, a nod to the kitchen stone. Grounding the room is a custom-designed rug, its varied pile heights adding depth and texture underfoot.

Unable to find the right piece for the dining area, we designed a custom table for the space: big enough to host friends, with a warm walnut finish soft to lean against and a steel base finished in a bronze patina to tie back to the architectural material palette. Tan leather dining chairs complete the setting, practical and comfortable for everyday use.

Furniture selection is rarely the final step it appears to be. Each piece here was tested against the floor plan and the family's everyday rhythms long before it was tested against the room, so that proportion, comfort and function could sit as comfortably as the finishes around them.
